Locking systems and insurance policies
With 2 of 3 burglaries gaining access through the a door, it's important to ensure your door locks are fit for purpose and many home insurance policies will insist on locking systems that meet British Standard BS3621:2004.
Types of locking system
Cylinder Rim Locks -
This is the more common type of lock you will likely find in a majority of internal door locks.
Cylinder rim locks on front and back doors should be supplemented by mortice locks.
Mortice Locks -
5 lever mortice Sashlocks, and mortice deadlocks are generally the minimum specification that will conform to BS3621 and should be installed on all front and back doors to your home, along with an entry restriction device such as a chain.
